Dental emergencies are scary, so knowing what to do and who to call is important when the unexpected happens. If you have an accident and your tooth gets knocked out, it’s critical to act quickly. Keep reading to learn how to handle this particular dental emergency.
Handling a Knocked-Out Tooth
When your tooth gets knocked out, acting quickly is extremely important. The sooner we see you in our dental office, the better chance we have of saving your tooth. Here’s what you should do in the meantime:
- Try to stay calm and locate your tooth.
- Hold your tooth by the crown, not the root, and gently rinse it with milk.
- Attempt to place your tooth back in its socket and then hold it in place with a tissue or a piece of gauze.
- If you can’t put your tooth back in its socket, store it in a glass of milk or inside your cheek.
- Call our dental office immediately; if we can see you within one hour, we have the best chance of saving your tooth.
