What Is a Dental Crown?

Dental crowns are durable tooth caps designed to fit over a broken, deeply decayed, damaged, or severely discolored tooth. A dental crown is placed over the natural remaining tooth to protect it and restore its strength, function, and appearance. Our dental office uses a wide variety of crown materials, but our most popular options are porcelain, ceramic, and zirconia crowns.

Crowns are versatile and can repair or correct a variety of dental concerns:

  • Deeply decayed teeth
  • Weaken teeth due to a root canal
  • Fracture, broken, or cracked teeth
  • Broken or weak fillings
  • Large, unattractive fillings

Our dental crowns are known for their excellent strength, which makes them a reliable option. They also protect the natural tooth’s structure and can last for many years.

What Is a Dental Bridge?

A dental bridge is an excellent option for replacing one or several missing teeth in the upper or lower jaws. A bridge is a prosthetic with artificial teeth that relies on adjacent natural teeth for support. A bridge completes your smile, enables you to chew and speak with ease, and prevents your natural teeth from shifting into the gaps left by tooth loss.

We offer different types of dental bridges, such as an implant-supported bridge, bonded bridge, Maryland bridge, temporary bridge, and more. Whatever you need, Dr. Heday and our team will make sure you receive the treatment you need, with the best materials available.

Benefits of Crowns and Bridges

Crowns and bridges in Scottsdale, AZ, are restorative treatments designed to repair damaged teeth or replace missing ones. They restore the appearance and functionality of your smile while keeping your oral health in top shape.

Restores Functionality

Crowns protect and strengthen damaged teeth, while bridges replace missing teeth to restore your ability to chew and speak properly. This makes sure your smile looks and feels great!

Prevents Shifting Teeth

A gap from a missing tooth can cause neighboring teeth to shift, leading to misalignment. A custom-made dental bridge fills in the space and keeps your teeth in their correct positions.

Long-Lasting

Made from strong materials like porcelain or ceramic, our custom-made dental crowns and bridges are built to last. With proper care, they can provide reliable performance for years.

Should You Replace Your Old Dental Crowns? Signs It’s Time for an Update

A man getting a dental exam and cleaning in scottsdale

If your dental crown is damaged or loose, you should replace it. Sometimes, your dentist can re-cement a loose crown, but booking an evaluation in our dental office is crucial. A loose or damaged crown allows bacteria to enter your tooth!

It’s important to remember that you don’t have to replace a perfectly good crown even if it has passed its estimated lifespan. Keep your crown as long as it continues to protect your tooth.

How Is a Crown or Bridge Placed?

Dr. Heday removes a layer of tooth enamel to make space for the restoration. Then she takes x-rays and an impression of your mouth to ensure your new crown or bridge fits perfectly. Dynamite Smiles Dentistry has a long-term professional relationship with one of the best dental labs in town where we send our restorations for fabrication.

When your custom restoration is fabricated and ready for placement, we will schedule an appointment to place the restoration and complete your smile.

Before she places the restoration, Dr. Heday numbs the area of your mouth where she’ll be working and will make sure you are totally comfortable and relaxed. She then cleans and prepares it to receive the restoration.

Dr. Heday makes sure the crown or bridge fits comfortably and seamlessly blends in with your smile before securing it in place. If you have a removable dental bridge, Dr. Heday will show you how to carefully insert it and attach it to the anchor teeth on either side of the gap and how to remove it for cleaning.

The final step is to polishes your teeth to give them some extra shine, and you’re ready to enjoy your newly restored pearly whites.

Are You Ready to Restore Your Smile?

Crowns and bridges in Scottsdale are ideal for patients who have missing or damaged teeth and desire a more complete and healthier smile.
