Sedation Dentistry in Scottsdale, AZ

Sedation dentistry can help patients feel more comfortable and at ease during their dental appointment. Most forms of sedation used in dentistry will allow you to remain conscious but relaxed, helping to ease the tension of undergoing dental procedures.

Methods of Sedation

At Dynamite Smiles Dentistry, Dr. Saba Heday offers two types of safe sedation for her patients: oral sedation and IV sedation.

Dr. Heday uses oral sedation to help manage mild to moderate dental anxiety. Dr. Heday will prescribe you a pill, which you take approximately an hour before your dental appointment. Oral sedation will leave you feeling very relaxed, and you may not even remember the procedure. A trusted friend or family member must accompany you to your appointment, as the effects of oral sedation can take several hours to dissipate.

Intravenous or IV sedation consists of a sedative administered directly into your bloodstream. IV sedation is useful for shorter procedures. Administering the medication directly into your bloodstream means immediate results. You may feel as if you were asleep during your treatment, and you will need a designated driver as grogginess is normal following IV sedation.

Dr. Heday and her team will monitor you during the procedure to ensure the highest level of safety and comfort.

Quality Care in Comfort with Sedation Dentistry

Relax through your dental treatments with safe, effective sedation options tailored to your needs. Here's how sedation dentistry elevates your dental care experience!

Minimizes Dental Anxiety and Stress

Properly administered dental sedation helps calm nervous or anxious patients and makes getting essential dental care a relaxed and stress-free experience.

Ensures Comfort Throughout Procedures

Sedation dentistry allows patients to remain comfortable during treatments, reducing discomfort and making procedures feel quick and manageable.

Enhances Treatment Efficiency

With sedation, dentists can complete multiple procedures in one visit, and you can enjoy peace of mind while making the most of your (minimal) time in the chair.

Frequently Asked Questions

Over the years, Dr. Heday has developed specific techniques to help minimize any discomfort you might experience. Her gentle touch and practice methods are what people admire and remember most. She also uses leading-edge dental technology to improve treatment outcomes, enhance patient comfort, and reduce recovery times.

For some procedures, Dr. Heday also uses local anesthetics to numb the area in the mouth where she’s working, so patients don’t experience pain or discomfort.

No Two Patients Are Alike

Every patient is different, so no two treatments are the same. We do not practice one-size-fits-all dentistry, and we customize each service to meet your specific needs.

If you have dental anxiety and need extra help relaxing, oral sedation or nitrous oxide (laughing gas) may be viable options. We also offer weighted blankets, neck pillows, and Bluetooth Bose headphones.

Before your treatment, Dr. Heday will determine if oral sedation or laughing gas will work for you.

Our Sedation Dentistry Options in North Scottsdale

Oral sedation is used for pain control and anxiety relief, and dentists often prescribe it before a specific type of treatment.

Nitrous oxide is a mild sedative. It’s inhaled through a nasal tube or soft mask, and the gas takes effect within a couple of minutes of breathing it in. Most patients feel dreamy and relaxed while using nitrous oxide, and the effects wear off within minutes of discontinuing use.

Both oral sedation and nitrous oxide are examples of conscious sedation. This means patients are awake and can still communicate with the dentist if needed. However, many patients seem to simply enjoy the calming sensation sedation gives them, and they become comfortable and cooperative.
